Serhou Guirassy is riding the crest of a wave at the peak of the Borussia Dortmund attack.
In 2026 so far, Guirassy has netted six times in the Bundesliga – including twice in the Black and Yellows’ latest 4-0 rout over Mainz on Friday night.
He brought up his 75th Bundesliga goal in the process. It has taken him just 122 games to reach that milestone – the eighth fastest player in league history to achieve such a feat.
That triumph, which was Dortmund’s sixth on the spin, propelled them to within just three points of league leaders Bayern Munich, who travel to strugglers Werder Bremen on Saturday.
Crucial goals aplenty for Guirassy
It’s not just the frequency of his goals, but there importance, which has made Guirassy such an instrumental figure in recent weeks.
His quick-fire brace was the catalyst in a 3-2 comeback win over Heidenheim and was followed by the match-winner during a 2-1 success at Wolfsburg last week.
Guirassy is the ultimate poacher. All 11 of his goals have come from inside the box – 10 of which have been from positions central to the six-yard box.
Ryerson – Dortmund’s creator in chief
Essentially, feed him and he will score and that’s exactly what Julian Ryerson did on a night when the Norwegian international bagged four assists – including three in the first half.
First, Ryerson swung a delicious free-kick into the centre of the box for Guirassy to plant a clinical header into the corner. He hung another inviting cross to the back post for Max Beier to double their advantage.
His corner delivery for the third was menacingly close to the goalkeeper and Guirassy capitalised with a predatory header inside the six-yard box.
The fourth assist arrived late on when he set-up Remy Bensebaini to make it 4-0 in the 84th-minute.
Dortmund defend compact off the ball and utilise the wing-backs to create attacking width when in possession.
Ryerson has been pivotal to that ploy. He has registered 13 assists in all competitions this term – 11 in the Bundesliga.
Only red hot Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise has tabled more assists in the German top-flight so far this season with 16.
Big fortnight ahead for BVB
Next, Dortmund face a crucial two-legged tie in the Champions League play-off either side of a trip to RB Leipzig.
They conclude the month of February with a trip to reigning champions Bayern Munich. It would not be an overstatement to suggest the next fortnight will be decisive in determining their fate this season.
