Calne Town joint-manager Ben Redford says he’s looking for a “positive reaction” when his side visit 6th place Radstock Town on Saturday.
Almondsbury ended Calne’s 6-match winning streak in the league with a 1-0 win on Tuesday. Despite the defeat, Calne remain three points clear at the top of the table.
“We were all disappointed after the game, but all good runs come to an end.
“The team have a slight lead at the moment. We’re enjoying it of course while we’re there but at the same time we’re keeping our feet on the ground,” Redford revealed.
Radstock Town have won five of their last six league matches, scoring 17 goals in the process. The Miners are just 10 points behind Calne and also have four games in hand.
This will be playing on the mind of Redford, who admits he’s expecting a “completely different game” from their 2-0 win earlier in the season.
He added, “Radstock made it quite clear at the beginning of the season that they were there to win the league. They’ve set themselves that target so anything less for them would be classed as a disappointment.”
Calne have conceded the fewest goals (16) in the Toolstation Western Football League Division One this season. Nevertheless, Radstock will be hoping that talisman James Rustell holds the key to unlock their robust rear-guard.
Rustell is the second leading scorer in the division with 18 goals in as many matches. However, Calne also boast the goal scoring prowess of Stuart Windsor (15 goals) and Jamaal Chevolleau (10 goals), who’ve scored a combined 25 league goals this term.
Redford has also added former Swindon Town forward Sol Pryce to his squad, who marked his debut with his first goal in their 4-1 win over Lebeq United last Saturday.
“Sol was a good signing for us. We definitely needed another striker as we only really had Stuart Windsor and Jamal Chevolleau.
“We needed someone to take the pressure of them both. It was good for Sol to get a debut goal, I hope he can add to that tally,” Redford said.
Redford has confirmed that Windsor will return to the team on Saturday, although he’s yet to decide on the formation he’ll field.
